Electrical Cupboards: Essential Danger Hazard Warning

All electrical cupboards should be clearly marked with “Danger” or “Hazard” warnings. These cupboards are often secured with Fire Brigade locks, which are industry-standard and can be easily obtained online or through locksmiths.

Typically, these cupboards provide enough space for maintenance work, but tenants frequently misuse them for extra storage, placing items like bicycles and car seats inside.

While landlords or housing associations have limited control over preventing such misuse, they are responsible for ensuring that the doors are properly labeled with warning signs. If the door is not marked and an incident occurs, the landlord could be held liable.

However, if the warning is in place and residents enter despite it, liability shifts to them, and no claims can be made against the landlord.
